A Moving Experience

Image
I’ve found a cool apartment! Okay, okay…so it’s not perfect. Just a few bugs. I mean literally! First expense? An exterminator! Is it worth the cash? Well, I can’t afford a more expensive place, so a one-time (please!) cash outlay should be okay. Maybe just a can of “Raid?” I need a way to move my stuff. Daddy, can I borrow your truck? You don’t have one? Why not? Do you want one? I’ll help you pick it out! Well, it was just a suggestion. No need to get all bent out of shape! I guess I’d better call the truck rental places. What do you mean…$200…PLUS mileage? AND Gas? Good grief! While I’m on the phone I’ll call the utility and phone companies. Yes, I know I haven’t used your services before. No, I don’t have a credit card; this is my first place. You want what? A $100 deposit? For EACH? Holy cow…do you people have a license to steal? Daddy, I need $500 for moving expenses! I used all my money for the first and last months rent AND the damage deposit. Well, how was I to know t...

Facts In Life You Should Now Know

Image
The most common mistake made by people who attempt to put together their first resume is that they put in too much information. They want to describe everything that they have ever done from the moment of conception to the present. The resume ends up being too long, and nobody will read it. The most important piece of information that you should retain is that your resume, no matter how well it is put together, will only get a 15 to 30 second review by the person who does the initial screening. That person is normally someone in Human Resources whose job is to look at hundreds of resumes per day. You must create your resume in such a way that it gives all the information they need in a maximum of 30 seconds. There is information that, under most circumstances, should not be in a resume. This includes: • Your age or date of birth • Religious or political affiliations • Reasons why you left your last job • Your Social Security Number • Health restrictions or physical limitations • Any ...

Credit Card Processing

Image
Credit card processing is a must for businesses if they don’t want to miss out on sales, but the various fees can be difficult to figure out. How it works When a customer uses a payment card to make a purchase, the credit card processor will send the relevant information and request for authorization to the credit card associations (such as Visa) and the banks that have issued the cards, for approval and payment. There are myriad fees involved in having this facility - some that can be avoided or negotiated, and some that can’t. Fees that can’t be avoided The largest fees that you will be paying are those charged by the credit card association for each transaction. These are published online for each provider and they are non-negotiable. Fees that should be compared In addition to those basic transaction fees, the card processor will charge a markup. How much that is can be difficult to see, as some processors wrap these up with the basic fee, whereas some list them s...

Wow Five Reasons to Love Business Process Automation

Image
1. Streamline communication Emails, sticky notes, and conversations around the water cooler are good ways to discuss tasks, but they are terrible for organized collaboration. An automated workflow enables your teams to huddle together around individual items in a workflow and get things done in a simple, streamlined way. Automation software offers a visual dashboard to see all of your requests at one go. Every item in progress has its own line of communication so all of your conversation is recorded in the right place. For Tim, this means no more communication based on email chains. Instead, by the time he reviews an email, he knows exactly who has seen it before and what the key goal of the campaign is. 2. Enforce accountability When you automate your workflow, you create an owner for each step of the process. Initiations, approvals, rejections, and input tasks are all bound to an individual expected to perform an action. Enabling that level of information transparency i...

Better Online Communication Makes Business Sense

Image
Many companies are now doing the majority or even all their business online and foregoing the “Brick and Mortar” storefront. It is easy to see why that trend has happened. For one thing, the cost of setting up such a business is relatively inexpensive and easy. There is no need to pay for the overhead of a physical building. Also, the cost of maintaining a Web site is minimal. Moreover, the Internet provides a convenient and efficient way of marketing products. As more and more people are spending time on the Internet, the market of online customers continues to grow.  But when businesses shift from face-to-face customers to anonymous online customers, there is a loss of personal connection and trust. All the online spamming and scamming hasn’t helped the matter at all. That has eroded the trust in E-commerce and the credibility of many companies.  How are you gaining and maintaining customer trust? What are you doing as an online vendor to communicate to your cu...
